Content-adaptive Multiresolution Analyses
In this paper we present a technique for building adaptive wavelets by means of an extension of the lifting scheme and analyze the stability of the resulting decompositions. Our scheme comprises an adaptive update lifting and a fixed prediction lifting step. The adaptivity consists hereof that the system can choose between two different update filters, and that this choice is triggered by the l...
متن کاملMultiresolution Estimates of Classification Complexity
In this paper, we study two measures of classification complexity based on feature space partitioning: “purity” and “neighborhood separability.” The new measures of complexity are compared with probabilistic distance measures and a number of other nonparametric estimates of classification complexity on a total of 10 databases from the University of Calfornia, Irvine, (UCI)
متن کاملMultiresolution Approximation for Classification
We consider the classification problem as a problem of approximating a given training set. This approximation is constructed as a multi-resolution sparse grid, and organized in a tree-structure. It allows efficient training and query, both in constant time per training point, for low-dimensional classification problems (D . 10) with large data sets. The memory required for such problems is usua...
متن کاملAn Overview of Wavelet Based Multiresolution Analyses
In this paper we present an overview of wavelet based multiresolution analyses. First, we brie y discuss the continuous wavelet transform in its simplest form. Then, we give the de nition of a multiresolution analysis and show how wavelets t into it. We take a closer look at orthogonal, biorthogonal and semiorthogonal wavelets. The fast wavelet transform, wavelets on an interval, multidimension...
متن کاملMultiresolution Analyses and Wavelets for Density Estimation
We use the concept of multiresolution analysis and orthonormal basis of wavelet functions to construct an estimator for an unknown density in a given Sobolev’s space. We show consistency with the rate of convergence equal to the optimal minimax rate of convergence. We also discuss some of the features of this new method of estimation on a numerical example.
